they can't all be 5 stars
that's simply not how a rating system works
some of my comments seem to be getting deleted lately only because they are critical of hyped releases...
I want electronic musicians to stop being lazy and work harder! :)

I posted this quote on this page years ago and it got deleted, I'm really glad you posted it again. :)
It certainly makes you wonder about all of the musicians and labels that chose to work with this "artist", doesn't it?

what a special way to commemorate the event... :P
I think there are many images that could have been a lot more "sexy" for a techno album cover, but we all have our own taste....... and now I understand Brinkmann's taste!

Great compilation and introduction to an excellent label
but what kind of hubris must a man have to put his big moody face and his name TWICE on the cover of a compilation of someone else's music?? :) LOL How about a picture of, like, Gene Russell or... See full review

"Fucking Bitch Cunt!" over and over and over in an aggressive male voice for 2 and a half minutes. Wow.
Ugly and dumb, from an artist who actually used to produce high quality art.. baffling!
the rest of the tracks on here are boring and useless "DJ... See full review

the aesthetic is nice and tape-hissy and the '90s-era synths sound cool, but the tracks themselves are whack half-finished sketch compositions and the mastering is poor. highlight is "floo".

I wish discogs would clean up all the duplicate ratings by the dub-techno fanboys who give every single version of every single release on this label (and others) FIVE STARS, FIVE STARS, FIVE STARS! :)

haha, you couldn't pay for this kind of publicity! Discogs needs to fix their algorithm or whatevertf. I think this also sheds light on the inexplicable popularity of the extremely mediocre Breaker 1 2 - Breakin' 12" ;)

Hype hasn't made sense for well over a decade in electronic music, it is all smoke and mirrors. You either "buy" the hype, or you don't pay any attention to it and realize that most hyped records are only hyped because the label is rich enough to pay... See full review

Haha, ok, let me flip it on you:

I'm not a hater, I have taste; I've rated over 4k releases on discogs, with an average of 4-stars. You have rated *11* releases with an average of 4.9 stars. OK :)

You are probably younger than 25 and have no taste.... See full review

early Susumu Yokota tracks, sounding pretty dated now, *but* Lumiscent Avatar is a stand-out ambient-techno track reminiscent of Aphex's SAW85-92 or early Rephlex/Warp trax of the time, tip!

If you really crank the mid and hi EQ up on a DJ mixer, these tracks become relatively-normal sounding (still very lo-fi). Some of Theo's records are just like this, they encourage you to explore the mixer and pitch control to find the sound you... See full review

In my completist quest to track down all of Yokota's records, I finally got this one.
The Salt City Orchestra remix is surprisingly good and deep. The Derrick Carter remix is surprisingly lame.

cave techno, monotonous in a sort-of-hypnotic way, if you love digital reverb and character-less washes of white noise then you will love VFTL. Why did this get so much hype?
Its the same damn pattern for 7+ minutes, guys, switch it up a little.. zzz
