[quote=mrzachschreiber96] Amazing first full length for a band that starts and ends strong but leaves more to be desired.Mix is great but a lot of compositions lack diversity structurally and tonally. Plus almost every song is in D (typical TOOL) but...

[quote=Shimmel] Yeah... with most presses IT IS LUCK OF THE DRAW. Even ERC, that stupid boutique label in England, that does limited editons of 300 pressings that retail for $500 has duds ! It happens. For me Optimal has a very good track record (...

The american reissue uses the same stampers as the original US release from 2007. So its literally the same sound.

jjupiter No, he means the outer sleeve. Replace as soon as possible btw. |

These dudes need to sort their s**t out, they have almost entirely ruined the Blue Note Classic series by putting out faulty after faulty pressings. Haven't seen such lack of quality control since United. These last couple of years anything pressed at...

Anthon40 Lmfao what are you talking about? This time around Domino put the money to press more... See full review |

Funny you mention Loveless as sounding "fantastic". My copy has a crapload of non-fill, clicks and ticks. With Optimal its luck of the draw.

Quite a few of their Tone Poet pressings are duds and have issues. In my case it was Money Jungle and Expansions.

[quote=jtm1967] A side by side comparison using the same gear (thorens td 165 with an ortofon om20 & marantz 1060 with paradigm speakers) clearly displayed a much deeper soundstage with the original press vs the repress. The bass was far deeper...

who the hell uses Discogs to review music? go to rateyourmusic or some other forum if you want to talk about the actual music, this place is mostly to review the quality of the pressings and mastering lmao

The recording might be "analogue" but the vinyl itself wasn't cut from tape, but rather a digital transfer from the master tapes.
|
![]() |
its quite literally the same stampers cut by GOLDEN. .
|
![]() |
This is a digital recording, dafuq u talking about a "master tape". You can be sure the lacquer was cut from the original master though, as usual.

Ofc freedom of speech and artistry is not something a bootlicking faux commie would find troubling, but what can you expect.
|

Is it really "pressed from the original analogue master"? This was actually pressed at GZ Media, and AFAIK they almost never work with analogue cutting.
|

Why don't you email or dm the label? The only proof that this might have been pressed at RTI is in the runouts (check the numbering, classic RTI sign), Blowout Comb for example has runout etchings that reveal that it was pressed at Rainbo. Anything...

Quite hard to believe but, aside from a few ticks during the first seconds of side A, I got an almost pristine pressing.

Who cut the lacquer for this version? . . .
|
![]() |
rkk How does it sound? Is it a good pressing? Thinking of buying it. |

My copy has a bit of non-fill during the first silent seconds of The Leper Affinity, at the very end of Bleak, and at the end of Patterns In The Ivy on Side C. Does anyone share this same issue?

AndyJL Lmfao get a better turntable, my copy doesnt skip and is quiet as a mouse |

Came here just to say that the new artwork on the Fat Possum release is absolutely awful. What was Jason thinking? The original cover is iconic and beautiful to look at, while this new one is a disservice, just boring and totally pointless.

Discoconuts Well, some current vinyl records sound way worse than their Spotify counterparts. |

Bought this version in 2018, sounds absolutely clean and came in a poly sleeve actually. Soundwise it's basically an exact match of the digital version.

Sadly my copy has a bit of non-fill during the first minute of Queen of Borrowed Light, but aside from that the rest is great.

dude. . . weed lmao . . . . .

Aside from a few faint ticks and pops during the first seconds of Lonely Woman, this record sounds truly phenomenal.
|

Surprised to see all the rave reviews considering this was pressed at United and mastered by their go-to vinyl mastering service dept (which isnt very good). Might buy it eventually.

[quote=zeppelinrecords] It is a shit product and has very little to do with the original master tape - a later generation source has most likely been used. Relapse had a choice of using a proper pressing plant but decided to use Czech under par...

[quote=Space_Partycles] That's fair enough, I've supported them since Blasphemy... but having Vile remastered would appeal to both new and old fans, and to be honest the sound quality of both Blasphemy & Vile could be improved upon, and that's not...

Do Eric Dolphy's and Freddie Hubbard's images look upscaled with an AI or is it just me? Maybe they couldn't find the original images unfortunately. Nonetheless, great pressing and great sound. Again, loving the mastering.

try making the spindle hole bigger and center the record yourself

is the cover gold foil embossed like the original 2011 issue?

A2 (second track) features a trombone with so much distortion on the left channel that it even manages to sound like crackling. The rest of the tracks are dead silent and distortion free. The mastering is indeed crazy good, so no complaints there.

It literally sounds the same as the 2018 RM, it uses the exact same stampers.

No, only MBV has both releases as full analog. .

I think I understand now why side B sounds like absolute ass. From the runout etchings you can tell it was mastered at Nashville Record Productions (basically were most United pressings get their 'in-house mastering') rather than Calyx, while Side A...

how does this sound compared to the digital version? .
|

a couple of Tone Poets aren't gatefold, apparently its because for certain albums there might not be pictures of the musicians during their record sessions, so they just go with single sleeve jackets for those
|

Sound and pressing is great, as mostly usual for Tone Poet, but yeah i don't know what's up with the piano sounding so wobbly on Side 2, comparing this to the digital version you'll find out digital has none of these issues. It's like listening to an...

NickCaveman yeah, in the dead wax were stuff usually is scribbled on, "CB" meaning who cut the vinyl master which stands for "Chris Bellman" |

For everyone complaining about the "reversed channels" issue: The correct placement (on the master tape) is for Astrud to be on the left and the drums on the right. When Ami Hadani cut the ORIGINAL stereo LP master at Radio Recorders in 1963, the...
