The Man Who Sold The World

I don't have an original to compare with, I only have my David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World 1984 NL press to compare to. Width Of A Circle on that press is muddy and undynamic by comparison to this pressing. In terms of clarity of sound, it is quite similar to my 1990... See full review

Here is the press release around this, it is mastered from the flat master tape: https://www.udiscovermusic.com/news/vinyl-howlin-wolf-moanin-moonlight/
Pure Phase

Consistent with the last Spiritualized release: top quality sounds, great packaging, average MRP press (quite noisy throughout, you will need an ultrasonic clean to get the crap out of these grooves). Fat Possum pays a cheaper PPU with not as much... See full review

Loud, dynamic, sounds brilliant. Run, don't walk, to this pressing.

Is there anything definitive if this was cut from the original analog tapes? I assume it was since it's not called out...

I hate the following trite expression, but I did almost fall out of my chair when I first heard this pressing. The crystal clear sound of the intro on the first cut of Side 1 is so real, I thought I had upgraded my audio equipment by a grade. Later,... See full review

4 Mean with Bears + Plain were the bane of vinyl reissues in the 2010s. Hopefully the runt of the litter never returns.

Recommended if you can find it - uses the same mastering as the US copy as indicated on the runouts. My copy plays flawlessly - highly recommended if you can find it.
Shaft

I recently bought this and I can't replicate the issues in the first comment. It's true that the Memphis press isn't a silent/flat pressing like RTI or QRP, however my copy I played on my Rega P10 sounded terrific with a lot of life. Furthermore, my... See full review

The worst record I've ever received. I received two copies and there are so many pressing faults, an ultrasonic cleaning did nothing. Just disgraceful to do the man's music like this.

Seems my review was deleted by the site so I will post it again. This release has way less dynamic range than the original and should be avoided.

My replacement was just received, and it does skip in the same spot as before. I asked Bleep if they're going to repress the thing, or just send another record.

There is no official record of who 'remastered' it on the release, so I honestly think 'remastered' simply means it was cut for vinyl.

I must have been lucky...my copy is pristine, besting the Mobile Fidelity CD I had been listening to for years. The sleeve is high quality as well, making this my reference copy.

I really enjoyed the Barbarism Begins At Home riff at the end of I Want Your Love...sneaks up on you. This was one of the highest quality records I've purchased in recent memory from a US label, recommend picking it up if you are on the fence.

Fantastically mastered, pressing quality seems to be hit or miss. I wet cleaned mine and it still is unlistenable towards the end of the side. Regardless, still a great pressing (BG / RTI) for the price.

Whether the record comes dirty or not, less concerned since a cleaning will sort that out. These records are beautifully pressed from Optimal, the remastering is fantastic, and the gatefold is a very soft touch high quality. The only downside is white... See full review
