A fantastic compilation of tracks given the Moulton magic. Tom Moulton is a legendary producer and remixer- one of the very first who pioneered the art in the early 70s. Tom is the person responsible for the 12" single, the disco mix, segued mixes, extended mixes, breaks and break downs among other things. He created dance floor and chart hits by the dozen. Now in his 80s the former model and record plugger is still actively creating mixes in his eccentric Manhattan apartment stuffed with piles of tape reels, master tapes stems and sorts of disco treasure.

You know, people slag this release off and yet, it's still keeping it's value. You know why? Coz it's pure brilliance. Don't like it? Don't listen to it!

Shockingly bad mastering - unforgivably loud and distorted. I've never been able to listen to more than one or two tracks at a time; it's that bad. Whoever mastered and approved this had cloth ears!

This is the second most disappointing release that I have come across (the other is the remastered 'Kraftwerk - Der Katalog/The Catalog'). The tracklisting is five stars all the way, but the mastering job isn't even worthy of one star. If you like highly-compressed music where the loud parts are loud and the quiet parts are loud, then this is your cup of tea. The dynamics of the music is totally shot. Your ears will get fatigued before you even hit the half-way point of the first CD. The wonderful nuance between the sounds is completely ruined. It's as if it was mastered by someone who is almost deaf. I can't believe Alchemy Mastering even put their name of this steaming pile of poop.

To recap: Great tracklisting; horrible sound.

This is absolute brillance. If you do not understand that you are not supposed too. Comes with fantastic Liner note Booklet explianing the the way's Tom Middleton became and still is the most prolific Remixer around, PERIOD!

Just listening to "TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia)" on this release and it sounds odd to me. After comparing with the release #1479957 (Mixed Masters #3) all was clear.

Check at 0:42 - it sounds completely destroyed.

Also the dynmamic range says it all:

              DR07; RMS-09.05; Peak-0.05 (this) vs. DR13; RMS-15.23; Peak-0.20 (#1479957)

I have to say the version on #1479957 is a little bit faster but could be corrected within Wavelab or maybe there is another better source.

Again: It is a collectors item - nothing for listening and djing.

Great collection - but sorry again ...

              Update:

Also "I Love Music" sounds odd. Compare with e.g. #1667949 - sounds so much better:
              DR08; RMS-09.68; Peak-0.05 vs. DR13; RMS-15.10; Peak-0.61

              2nd Update:

What the hell has happend with "TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia)"? Check from e.g. 4:22 and compare with #1479957. I don't understand this sound quality difference. The sound itself changes (and the musical keys too of course).

              DR07; RMS-09.05; Peak-0.05 vs DR13; RMS-15.23; Peak-0.20
