- Maschina Records is going to be reissuing this album on vinyl in your choice of black, blue, or yellow wax. Release date will be sometime in February which is soon. There is even a 2xCD version with bonus material including remixes and other rarities.
- Edited 11 months agoI must say that this album is a interesting one. It is the first and only album where Fancy was experimenting with Hip-House. Now the whole album is not hip-house with rap all over the place all the way through. The album is split in two in a way. The first six songs all featuring the rapping from Steve D5 while the rest of the songs, minus "No More Sin" which also have Steve D5 rapping on it, are done in the Disco/Hi-NRG style from Fancy earlier albums, with just Fancy singing.
Now is this the worst studio album Fancy has ever released? Well that is of course up to one self to decide. But in my opinion it is not his worst. But I must say that, for a long time I thought it was his worst album. But it has grown on me. I think that the Hip-House versions of "Fools Cry", "Running Man" and "When Guardian Angels...Rap (The first single from this album, but for some reason it was not included on the album itself)" and the song "I'm Free" are the better ones on the album. The rapping and the instrumental is the best one these four songs.
The Hip-House versions of "Flames of Love" and "Slice Me Nice" and the songs "Deep In My Heart" and "No More Sin" are not good at all. The rapping and instrumental on these songs are the worst on the album. They sound like demo songs. Especially "Flames Of Love", the sound quality seems lower on that song for some reason.
So while the first part of the album is a mixed ride, the second part of the album with just Fancy singing is very good.
The songs are now back to the Disco/Hi-NRG sound with a thouch of Hip-house. For me, the songs "Love In Japan", "Push and Show of Love" and "It's The Same Old Song (A cover of The Four Tops 1965 song)", are the best songs from the second part of the album. If you ask me, I think that Fancy should have released "Love In Japan" as the second or as a third single from the album. The other songs on the second part of the album are good to. Put compared to his songs from say the album "Five" that came out before this one and even compared to "Love In Japan" Push and Show Of Love" and "Its The Same Old Song", they feel a little underwhelming.
Overall, this album is not his worst but it's also far from his best. I do like that Fancy was trying to go in a new direction on this album and experimenting with other genres instead of just making another "Five" or "All My Loving". But at the same time it feels a little rushed in the production. Maybe if he had worked on it a little bit longer it would have had a more consistent sound quality.
Also, the album cover on this album is not that great either. With some psychedelic green lighting that feels so out of place with the image of Fancy and the album logo. It looks cheap, like the cover designer just threw things together. - As cheesy as Fancy gets, this release certainly takes the trophy of cheesiest. It's essentially hiphouse versions of Fancy with absolutely horrific new raps over all of his old tunes by Steve D5 and sounds which are stretched to fit your basic breakbeats. There's a great pic of Tess Teiges wearing a D5 jean jacket that features the rapper and his kid n play haircut in graffiti. If you are even a remote fan of Fancy you have to listen to it at least once just to believe it.
