Show All 25 Reviews- My copy finally arrived and all I can say is wow!!! Right from the first beat the sound is INSANE!! Silent vinyl without a clean! The chimes on Do it Agaib!!! So good!!!
- I ordered this from Music Direct (not knowing who it was owned by and also not knowing about acoustic sounds) and I still haven’t gotten it yet. The site says available November 18th and is still up for preorder.
- I agree with all reviews below...Stellar pressing sound quality wise, and fantastic packaging.
I know Geffen/Universal now owns the rights, but would prefer to see a recreation of the classic ABC label on the next 6 UHQR's. - This sounds so good it’s making me anxious for what’s to come. Absolutely killed this pressing. The Royal Scam is the one I am really excited for though. I think they were pretty dialed in by that time on production approach and I believe that’s the last one that will have the true original master for. Gaucho is my favorite…but I think a the Royal Scam will shine bright in these releases and get its due appreciation in a very good and saturated discography.
- Edited 19 days agoYet another rave review for the Analogue Productions UHQR Can’t Buy a Thrill coming. Just right off the bat, I don’t think you’re going to hear a better version of this album unless you are listening to the master tapes themselves. I’ll try to describe what it’s like listening to this thing. It’s like…I’m in the studio when the Dan were recording this and somehow my ears are able to be at a perfect distance from every instrument as they individually play during all phases of the Recording all at the same time and my brain can take those very live individual sounds and process them into this pressing. Just a fancy way of saying you may as well be in the studio when this was being recorded. You can practically smell the cocaine through your headphones.
- Just finished my copy and yes, it's unbelievably good. To me, the highlights are in the vocals and percussion. Next level clarity and tightness. The *slightest* bit of quiet surface noise on the first half of B1, as well as the inevitable small number of ticks throughout the album, otherwise really zero complaints. I have to remind myself sometimes that regardless of the magical vinyl formula used, there is no 101% dead quiet vinyl. It just comes with the vinyl medium. The packaging and jacket is A+ as well.
- So impressed with this release. Virtually no vinyl noise & sounds better than ever! Thank you Bernie Grundman & Chad Kassem!
- I can only agree with (most) everyone else. This is one of the best sounding records I have ever heard. It blows away the early US pressing (RE-1) that I also have. I can't wait to hear the later ones, when Steely Dan really comes into its own as a band.
- Edited 21 days agoSo here how my night has gone. My UHRQ #1555 arrived today. I opened and cleaned both on my degritter US. played side 1, opening was great, as the progression went on NO bass, muddy vocals. I adjusted the VTA on my SME 312S arm with my Kiseki purple heart, next side even worse so much IGD I could not understand the words except for the chorus's, that seem boosted and very bright! OK it's my system I remove my IMF speakers and install my Tannoy Ardens, and replay, same problem. I decide to swap my purple heart cartridge for my Koetsu black, same IGD, and muddy vocals. UPDATE and eating crow!!! First I apologize for the initial review. I should have just taken a deep breath and stepped back. 24 hours later, I cleaned the record in my Kirmuss several times today, put my system back to normal and I am hearing what you are are hearing, and it sounds great. I am not sure if the kirmuss was able clean something the degritter could not but it certainly is day and night from the first listen.
- Edited 23 days agoI'm a huge Steely Dan fan and was put off by the price at first, but now after playing this, I am thoroughly impressed and have zero regrets about buying this pressing. Sounds absolutely incredible! 5 stars ????
Can't wait to hear the rest of the Steely Dan UHQR's!
