Ok so I just got this edition new #23241. First the vinyl is perfectly flat quiet and well done. The package is great. Well thought out and exactly what I would have done. Only thing missing is the hi rest download card ..which should have been included with this package IMO. Well I have never heard the mono before so I figured go ahead. That being said I am pretty happy with it. The Doors first album was done on the cheap..so I am not surprised that this is not perfect audiophile..in fact it is what I expected from a 50 year old tape that was probably not a concern until relatively recently with the re-emergence of vinyl. So I guess I am very pleased with this package. Overall the stereo on this album is KING..IMO. But this is a great listen. PS: the low end on this release is really good..the tone etc. It does seem they attempted to master this with care I have never known of BG as being a slacker or having a bad ear.
Equipment
VPI Scout 1.1
Soundsmith Carmen Mk2 (ebony)
Musical Fidelity M6x phono stage
Totem Signature One Bookshelves
PS" I think some plastic inner sleeves would help for the cds in this collection. Just got my new Mono Cart. Cant wait to set it up!

I wonder if the mono master tape had degenerated significantly for this remaster. The copy of the mono tape here sounds really quite horrible and it puzzles me that I read so many fawning over it across the internet. There's a copy of a first issue US mono LP on youtube and it sounds, even in its lossy state, significantly better than this transfer. The tape sounds really messed up, no doubt it required baking for the transfer let alone whatever else is wrong with it. It's incredibly distorted on tracks like 'The Crystal Ship'.
