Notes
USA 1st / early pressings do not list Michael Jackson as a co-producer on the back cover under the "Produced by Quincy Jones..." credit (example: Thriller). Later pressings add "Co-Produced by Michael Jackson" (examples: Thriller and Thriller).
Every song of the LP, excluding "The Lady In My Life", either charted in the Billboard Top 100 or was issued as an A-side or B-side on 45 RPM singles. It was released on November 30, 1982 as the follow-up to Jackson's 1979 critically and highly commercially successful "Off The Wall" LP. "Thriller" explores similar genres to those that were heard on "Off the Wall" but redefined pop music, R&B, rock, post-disco, funk, and even adult contemporary music. It currently remains the largest grossing LP and represents the most copies ever sold of one LP worldwide, with sales over 65 million copies according to various sources.
Recording sessions took place between April and November 1982 at Westlake Studios in Los Angeles, California, with a production budget of $750,000, assisted by producer Quincy Jones.

Show All 405 Reviews- Good soundstage and clarity, but lifeless. Standard-price pressings are more engaging and fun to listen to. Even the hi-res stream from TIDAL or Qobuz is more enjoyable than this waste of $100. I have other MoFi One Steps which I love. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.
- This one step is still available in every (!) online record shop, even on amazon. I think they totally overestimated their sales. Bad timing with the ?mofi gate‘ though.

UK cassette I had was appalling quality sound, really distorted vocals, poor quality control.
My vinyl original LP is superb. - As for being cut from a digital file, it's the ONLY way to ensure that first generation mixdown tapes are being used as the source. (as production masters are by default, 2nd gen)
DSD 256 is EXTREMELY high resolution, btw, and might as well be identical sounding to the source. - I was gifted 100 quid for a bday and felt i had to snag one of these to see what the fuss is all about and put simply its quite disappointing. The problem is most of all.... the price. It sounds quite ok, but nothing special. It doesnt Thrill me anymore than my old CD which if anything is cleaner in the upper mids/snares and sibilants. Ive got a click for 20 rotations at the start of Billy Jean which is a track whose simple repetitive percussion doesnt benefit from at all. On the so called quietest purest vinyl ever made lol, they need to see how Record Industry does it tbh. It is at least flat (often an RTI woe) and centered but covered in splodgy marks ala many an RTI press.... you just cant help but stare at the 80s MOFI records and see how immaculate they were and still are and then look at these One Steps and wonder what the fecks happened lol.
I see too theyve reduced the packaging to something half the width (good its alot more rack friendly) and more minimal of guff yet the price hasnt come down in line. I mean as much as this new style is better for space just put these in a stougton tip on gatefold with high res OG art and stop endlessly and tastelessly branding the crap outta things the way yanks always feel the overly proud nature to do.
The final disappointment comes from knowing this is a digital cut which while not necessarily worse for being so does mean making these is cheaper to do than AAA chain and so again more reason to not rip consumers off.
Overall its a 30 quid pressing in over elaborate but ineffective packaging, priced at three times what it should be. My advice.... buy the SACD if you want this mastering and you own a CD or SACD player and save on costs while gaining on playback quality because this one just isnt worth it imo - This pressing beats easily the Mofi ! More dynamic, Crystal clear, perfect separation... Just perfect ! don't spend your money for the Mofi, you will not get better than this one ;)
- Just compare this new Mofi with my M/M Thriller 1982 Japanese press ... and no hesitation to say the Japanese is more dynamic, more clear and never tiring. Mofi did a good job but the pressing don't worth the price. For 30$ you could purchase the Japanese version in NM condition, which is fabulous and beats clearly this remaster.
- What a fantastic Release. I've had the luck to get this in NM.
Records like this are the Reason why i Love the good old Vinyl. Here is everything in his right place. It Sounds brilliant, warm and Dynamic.
I also have a Reissue from 2022 here. They didn't was bad, but the can't compares with the Original Releases. - Seems like a great release. I haven't owned Thriller on vinyl before but this one seems just as clean and punchy as some of my best other records. A little bit of surface noise audible occasionally in the gaps between songs after a wet clean, but not audible during the songs. Cart: AT VM750SH for context.

Question about this release. I was looking at the pictures how is the CD stored in the case? Is it just shoved between cardboard like digisleeves or did they put it in anything like a jacket or anything? Thanks in advance.
