    Mantra Move - 'Raven Dub'
Debut album from Mantra Move physical CDs have arrived! Limited to 250 and you can get them only from LSD Bandcamp.
    ?
Currently the projects core members are Koze Kozma, KUBA & activist Lee Harris but the project was birthed in 1997 by Koze and former Killing Joke bassist Paul Vincent Raven (also of Ministry & Prong) This CD is dedicated to 'The Raven King'.?
    ?
We were honoured to bring this project to life and felt the passion and love from all involved to realise this body of work after so many years. ?????
    ?
Koze Kozma and Paul Raven birthed the project Mantra Move together in 1997 but sadly Raven departed this mortal coil in 2007 from a heart attack in his sleep whilst recording in Switzerland.
Finally 12 years later the dream and dedication is realised and it is truly beautiful! ???
    ?
?From 'Raven Dub' you can expect a delicate fusion of dub, downbeat electronica, reggae, psychedelic/progressive rock alongside flamenco and traditional world instruments. The incorporation of healing mantras, spoken word and poetry lends way to a body of work that is deeply heartfelt.?

Not sure about this from the samples! Just like 'New Atlantis' by Efdeminit - with less of the Deep House/Techno House that I personally liked as with PduP/Efdeminit previous albums, which has now been replaced with a more of newage nature-folk-electonica feel!

^^Don'f forget to check out the new double CD album by Gaberial Le Mar 'Shared Fictions' released on Carpe Sonum sub label...Sounds amazing!
    https://gabriellemar.bandcamp.com/album/shared-fictions
Looking forward to this album, esp loving the 'Beatless Versions' disc with some cool acid vibes.
    https://gabriellemar.bandcamp.com/album/shared-fictions-beatless-version

“Shared Fictions“ is heavily inspired by the science-fiction and fantasy genre that Gabriel’s been a fan of since his early youth. “Shared Fictions“ is about the ability of magical thinking, the power of imagination, and the beauty of creating from it.

The eight-track album opens with “Journey Within", bringing a half time rhythm that morphs into a straight leftfield tech 4/4 bar and back, and that reflects the space within the notes that define a groove as well. Next up is the title track which moves on an electro breakbeat along with harmonic pads to produce atmospheric cinematic soundscapes.

“Stay In Wonderland“ combines an electro groove with a heavy low dub sub and a funky acid riff that filters through the midtempo arrangement and keeps the flow.

"Deep Focus" starts with sound design spaces that open for an organic more midtempo electro groove accompanied by a morphing baseline and digs deep into sonic space, ultimately floating into a straight but relaxed moving beat.

“City of Thoughts“ begins with weeping e-bow sound guitars and develops into a journey with a more urban feel by shining through optimistic and open major harmonies mixing downtempo chill out with funky electro beat.

“World Tree“ is composed of shades of trip-hop and dub, combining hand-played recordings and soulful programming into a beautiful cinematic trip.

The deepest track on "Shared Fictions" is definitely "Mythical Past" that cuts in 73 bpm through the track with a heavy dub bassline and a solid beat forming the backbone that keeps it together.

“Collective Dreamworld (Wonderland Mix)“ continues where “Stay In Wonderland“ ended–deeply floating acid baselines, tablas and electrofunk grooves are guiding through the track that completes the album.

CD includes a bonus disc of beatless mixes, and you'll receive a code that will enable you to download the beatless mixes as well. see

    Mike Mangino - Coisas
    https://boomkat.com/products/coisas
    https://www.juno.co.uk/search/?q%5Ball%5D%5B%5D=Mike+Mangino+-+Coisas&hide_forthcoming=0
Bought it ?? Excellent album?? Hard to find this CD (not CDr). but is available from Boomkat and Juno's.

    Boomkat Product Review:
Smersh’s Mike Mangino does it dubby and techno deep house-styled for his longtime fans at iDEAL, big recommendation if yr feeling Huerco S., Ilpo V?is?nen’s Liima dubs, The iDEALIST!

As half of New Jersey’s prolific, grooving industrial unit Smersh alongside Chris Shepard (R.I.P), Mike Mangino’s efforts in the ‘80s and early ‘90 have exerted a vital influence on the past decade of DIY noise techno and lo-fi operators thanks to a string of prized Smersh reissues via Dark Entries and Knekelhuis. iDEAL founder Joachim Nordwall has followed Smersh since their cannily titled 1986 album ‘The Part of The Animal That People Don’t Like’, and more recently has been obsessing over Mangino’s SoundCloud page, which lead him to get in touch and promptly receive this hypnotic batch of deep house and moody machine dub workouts.

Judging from the seven trax of ‘Coisas’, it’s safe to say that Mangino’s music is still very much relevant to the underground and fringe electronic music communities. Like his early work, Mangino’s music still moves perpendicular to dub, noise, industrial and synth music, and since the late ‘80s it’s taken form as a sort of slanted house and brittle dub sound that indeed echoes with Joachim Nordwall’s own efforts as part of B?rft Records in the early ‘90s, and nowadays as The iDEALIST.

Trustingly hand-picked by Nordwall, the set highlights Mangino’s tastes for cranky textures, melancholic atmospheres, and a personalised brand of sideways futurism. ‘Local Dub’ gets it going like one of Ilpo V?is?nen’s killer Liima dubs, and the night crawling dub slug ‘Ramona Corner’ very cannily pitches up with very trippy effect. ‘The Way You Are’ follows with a full bodied, raw and sleepy dub house stride that’ tucked away Nu Groove style in ‘Slowly I Turned’, while ‘Nothing Changes’ returns to dwell in dub contemplation, and the whisked piano house of ’Solitaire’ gives way to something like a smudged Huerco S. dub in ‘Amphetamine Jitters’.

    Phillip Sollmann - Monophonie
    https://a-ton.bandcamp.com/
Following 2019’s ‘New Atlantis’ LP under his experimental techno alias Efdemin, Phillip Sollmann’s ‘Monophonie’ is a project dedicated to uniting different strands of utopian music. His approach: combining and recontextualizing rare historical instruments of sonic research of Hermann von Helmholtz (19th century) with the self-designed, microtonal instruments of Harry Partch and metal sound sculptures of Harry Bertoia.

The result is a psychedelic investigation into just intonation – alternative tuning systems that create unique sets of harmonics not found in conventional scales. ‘Monophonie’ recasts these sounds into new rhythmic environments where epic kosmische, polyrhythms, acoustic techno and microtonal glow are interwoven into a rare music.

Over nine tracks, the album explores multiple forms of minimalism, from unwavering repetition to paired-down chords and sparse sonic environments. But it also seeks to expand the sound spectrum of Partch’s custom built organs and melodic percussion instruments as well as Bertoia’s sonambient singing metal rods into an atmospheric otherworldliness.

‘Monophonie’ was first composed in 2016 and premiered at Berlin’s Volksbu?hne theatre in 2017, before it went on to the renowned Ruhrtriennale and Kampnagel in Hamburg. It was performed by one of Germany’s premier neue musik collectives Ensemble Musikfabrik together with Sollmann himself on von Helmholtz’s original double siren, with set design by Michael Kleine and wardrobe by Peter Kisur of Honeysuckle Company.

Juno Review: French electronic music maverick Erwan Castex aka Rone drops an LP for his native InFine imprint! This, as one would expect from Castex by now, is an excursion into the deepest depth of the synthesizer. There are both moments of total abstraction, such as on "(OO)" and "Ouija", and of sheer delicacy on the wonderful "Acid Reflux" or "Memory". The most impressive aspect of the album is Rone's technical ability, a freedom to express even the wildest of ideas into a concrete groove and sonic structure. Recommended.

Just discovered this. Though released in Nov 2019 (CD/Digital). Probably went under the radar for most. Excellent unique Techno. Can find the album on Spotify.

    Stefan Goldmann - Veiki
    https://boomkat.com/products/veiki
Stefan Goldmann's 'Veiki' is a bold foray onto new rhythmic ground for machine-based dance music. While Veiki's sounds appear firmly grounded in contemporary techno, its pulse is neither based on the 4/4 tradition nor on the breakbeat continuum. The metres employed here are distinctly asymmetric – i.e. they never add up to binary entities, but are odd-numbered instead. With patterns of 7, 9 or 11, they offer possibilities for dislocating the center of gravity not available to standard rhythmic fare. Thus this may represent one of the few systematic efforts to move slamming machine techno onto an alternative rhythmic foundation: Real broken beat.

Asymmetric / irregular metres are part of the ancient music tradition of the Eastern Mediterranean and South Eastern Europe. The patterns employed here are also present in the traditional music of Bulgaria with which Stefan Goldmann grew up. Citing no other aspects and using no 'ethnic' samples, these tracks lead a way to resolving the problem of how to bring the tools and traits of cutting edge electronic music to alternative traditions of music, or vice versa. Structure over surface.

Of course irregular metres have been visited for structural exploration by Western musicians of different backgrounds, such as Don Ellis, Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, Steve Coleman or Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit who have all developed highly distinguished and idiosyncratic approaches in relation to these. Thus a reduction of the phenomenon to its core and emergence as a clear-cut and reproducible form appeared imminent for at least two decades. The inexplicable surprise though is that despite the ongoing rhythmic differentiation of breakbeat and techno this obvious step seems to have never been taken decisively. Now here it is.

...a unique innovative artist - not your typical Techno/House and Ambient/Experimental artist! Worth checking albums:

    FLYING LOTUS - Flamagra (Instrumentals)
    https://www.juno.co.uk/products/flying-lotus-flamagra-instrumentals/775893-01/

    Juno:
12 months on from the release of his brilliant album "Flamagra", Flying Lotus has decided to offer up an instrumental version of the set. Given that the set included some of the Los Angeles-based producer's best work to date, this is no bad thing. Stripped of almost all vocal contributions (bar the odd snatch of backing vocals), FlyLo's breathtakingly brilliant musical vision rightly takes centre stage. And what a vision! He's always been great at crafting glitchy, off-kilter hip-hop instrumentals, but "Flamagra" is much more than that, with the Brainfeeder founder utilizing the work of a wide range of guest musicians and far more nods towards his jazz and fusion roots. The original album was superb, and this is just as good, so don't sleep!

^^Sounds really good - a must for me and also J.B's new album ;)

Yotam AVNI - Was Here (CD/Vinyl)
    https://www.juno.co.uk/search/?facet%5Bmirror_artist_facetm%5D%5B%5D=yotam+avni&hide_forthcoming=0
It’s taken Yotam Avni a little while to get to his debut album; almost a decade, really, since his debut 12”, “That’s What The World Needs”, on California’s Seasons Limited imprint. During that time, the Tel-Aviv based producer has refined his productions, tightening the groove and paring everything back to bare essentials; the power in an Avni cut is its combination of piston-pulse propulsion and a deep, but gently applied, musicality. This combination gives his techno productions added heft on the dance floor, but also a lyrical sensibility that places him squarely in a tradition of techno legends who somehow manage to make the four-to-the-floor a space of poetic intensity, of rigorous joy.

Avni’s been on Kompakt’s radar for a while, first appearing on the label last year, with his Speicher contribution, “Ma?ana Ma?ana”. (“Track For Agoria”, from that EP, also appeared on Total 19.) The connection immediately made sense – dance music that managed to feel both lush and streamlined across the same great gasp of late-night energy. But with Yotam Avni Was Here, he’s taken a huge leap. After a brief intro, Avni sets his stall with “Beyond The Dance”, which features slow-moving vocal melisma over sculptural, melting tonalities, a tintinnabulating, harpsichord-like two-note phrase pacing out the track. Then “It Was What It Was” comes into view, its strip-light textures suddenly placed into sharp relief by a muted trumpet figure that hangs in the air, melancholy and pensive.

It’s no surprise, at this point, to discover that Avni’s inspirations for Was Here took in the histories of both techno and jazz. “I wanted to try something more around Detroit Techno meets ECM,” he reflects, when explaining the motivating forces behind the album. “Carl Craig’s Just Another Day EP and Kenny Larkin’s Keys, Strings, Tambourines came out during my high school years and had huge impact on me.” Avni’s also appeared on Transmat compilations, and remixed artists like the Midwest’s Titonton Duvanté, and Orlando Voorn – the latter particularly important for the way he connected the Detroit and Amsterdam techno scenes – his career path is marked by ongoing connections, direct and indirect, to Detroit’s storied history.

“I always wanted to go back to those hi-tek soul roots on a full album,” he continues, and he’s definitely exploring that terrain here, with the sky-strafing brass on “Free Darius Now”, morse-code keys on “Vortex” and glitchy, microhouse tickles of “Know Hope” all contributing to an oblique narrative that seems to arc across Was Here – one fleshed out by guest musicians, who include dop and Georg Levin on vocals, and trumpets by Greg Paulus (of Beirut and No Regular Play). The cover art makes the jazz connection explicit, riffing on the text-based, minimal design of The Modern Jazz Quartet’s 1955 album for Prestige, Concorde. But the way Avni has gathered around him both inspiring musicians and intriguing reference points makes me think of his broader career as well, the collectivism behind his AVADON nights in Tel-Aviv, his many and wide-ranging releases on labels like Innervisions, Hotflush and Stroboscopic Artefacts, and the openness of his productions, which seem to be all about the multiple, the possibilities of cross-pollination, of fusing this with that, of adding and subtracting, all under the pulsating thumbprint of techno.

Good things, after all, are worth waiting for.

^^Does sound good in a Carl Craig/Kenny Larkin way! Its on Spotify so you can check the whole album - I'm certainly getting it ;)

    Extractor - Echo Train [GRSCL15]
    https://scale-limited.bandcamp.com/album/echo-train-grscl15
The latest full length release from Greyscale features a fresh new artist to the lineup. This is also the debut full album from Ukraine artist Extractor. Named 'Echo Train', this 9 tracker is full of crafty chords and spirited jams of dub techno for any season or atmosphere. 'Aurora' & the title track 'Echo Train', are catchy early morning vibe enchancers while 'Rain Impulse' is the pinnacle to a profound dubby soundtrack on a gloomy day. Soaring thru the sky with 'Winter Clouds' will certainly be a favorite of listeners while it's revision gets a bit more granular with the rhythm. This album features some deeper cuts as well. An example like 'Cold Movements' is full of icy ripples of techy goodness. Then you certainly have the showstopping sounds of 'Storm' which brings some sick and edgy darkness to it. 'Catalyst' is not to be missed either for those that like the slow churning classic dub techno grooves. Quite a debut album here! The future looks bright for Extractor and we are thrilled to have him on Greyscale!

NAWIE - "The Ice We've Lost" [LP, RDNTSVRF001]

    https://rdntsvrf.bandcamp.com/album/the-ice-weve-lost
    http://www.aninacollins.com/Nawie-The-Ice-Weve-Lost/release/15668432

Permafrost covers large regions of Earth, mostly areas near North and South Poles. Global warming causes permafrost to defreeze deeper every year, which drives indigenous people out of their homes, destroys infrastructure, causes organic matter that was covered by it to decompose which results in release of greenhouse gasses that speed up thawing even further. Moreover thawing unfreezes potentially dangerous microbes, bacteria and viruses that were trapped under the ice for hundreds of thousands of years.
Currently science doesn’t have right tools to predict the speed and consequences of this process which is both a result and propelling factor of climate changes on our planet.

Nawie - "The Ice We've Lost" is bass heavy album, full of dubby-IDM inspirations, created entirely using hardware samplers, synthesizers, guitars and effects. Whole material has been passed through magnetic tape to achieve warm, analog sound.

    Virgo - Landform
    http://www.aninacollins.com/Virgo-Landform-Code/release/251544
I have to say of the many thousands of "electronica" CDs that I've listened to over the past 15 years, "Landform Code", is in my top 20, perhaps the top 10. I am mystified how little recognition this cd, and the other seven CD releases on the unknown FORM@RECORDS label, have gotten. It's sometimes difficult for small Japanese labels to get the worldwide distribution they deserve. Because of the lack critical or consumer attention, the CDs are hard-to-find, but well worth the effort. Each one is a classic example of Detroit techno, done right. "Landform Code" is perhaps the best on the label. It's right up there with Carl Craig, B12, early Black Dog, Ian O'Brien and As One. From the opening track, "Arcadia", it's clear that Virgo has listened to the masters, and has managed to retain a freshness that has eluded the pretenders.

THE FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON - Cascade 2020
    https://boomkat.com/products/cascade-2020
Cascade was originally released oct 1993 the first single from the now highly regarded LIFEFORMS album. Cascade went on to chart in the UK top 40 at No.27 and has continued to be regarded as an early piece of classic Electronica. Twenty-seven years later FSOL rebuild and create ten new compositions inspired by the original. The familiar electronic swamp of FSOL and engineer Yage can be heard as the tracks journey through fragmented melodies of the original composition.

    Estimated Sept 2020

Love the original... Remember picking up the CD from my local Our Price(UK) - miss those days!

Tapes, aka Jackson Bailey, returns to EM Records for the first time since 2015' s "No Broken Hearts on This Factory Floor", in a live collaboration with his pal from Osaka, 7FO, another of EM' s favourite artists. This CD features new arrangements of some Tapes digital reggae classics like "Ticker Tape", "C20" and "Freak Riddim", and new tunes including a dubbed-out version of the "Tetris" theme and "Summer Jam", a jazz-fusionoid weirdo. The smoke is thick on these 14 ferric soul soothers and digital brain bombs, with drum machines and synths lovingly warped by tape echo and spring reverb, melding with 7FO' s fine guitar playing, often heavily effected, all working together to deliver the goods: digi-reggae, dub, ambient smoke, and hints of a new age. Ranked by Resident Advisor as one of the top performances at the 2019 Meakusma Festival, this is one you' ll enjoy, no matter what reality you choose to inhabit.

ISAN - Nothing Picked and Placed Nowhere
    https://boomkat.com/products/nothing-picked-and-placed-nowhere
"ISAN are the latest act to rise to the challenge – for your convenience they have provided a 7 minute edit, and a 77 second super-edit, alongside the full 77 minute opus. Think of a sonic pencil case full of recently sharpened electronic chimes and breezes, tweets and wooshes, swirls and hovers and even some plinks and plonks. ISAN - “On the outskirts of now-deserted Hapfelzdorf in the former GXD lies the vast, abandoned Zwip-Con Mega-Fac #77. Input bays are empty of supply pods, output bays with corrugated shutters are closed. Solar panels still glisten on the roof, a wind-farm sussurates in the constant, persistent NoSeason breeze. Non-stop power for a non-op facility. Inside, automata whirr over empty production lines. Conveyor belts deliver only the empty promise of work to bots operating on pre-programmed habit alone. Warehouse mechanicals serenely optimise acres of empty rack-space. A cleaning clone sweeps, oblivious to the wild dog barking at its solenoid ankles. Birds roost in the rafters. Nature infiltrates.”

From minimalism to melody and back again, Isan have been navigating the aural Autobahn since a chance meeting brought together Robin Saville and Antony Ryan in 1996. With Robin based in England and Antony residing in Denmark, they creatively communicate via email, telephone and postcard. Notes are compared and directions assimilated or abandoned, they prefer to allow their sound to develop on its own. Continually progressing their passion for sound, Isan are not afraid of giving their analogue tone poems space to breathe, placing as much importance on void and silence as on sounds – sometimes vibrant and scratchy, sometimes hymnal and opulent. Their sonic design sits somewhere between the Düsseldorf sounds of Kraftwerk and neu!, the invention of a young Eno and the smart-pop expertise of the Cocteau Twins. They’ve remixed and been remixed by the likes of Depeche Mode, The Notwist, Seefeel and Piano Magic amongst others."

A absolute ambient-techno classic now on vinyl for the very first time. Bought the CD back in 1993 and still remains one of my all time fav ambient-techno albums, even today!

Deep Space Network - Big Rooms
    https://rediscoveryrecords.bandcamp.com/album/deep-space-network-big-rooms
On behalf of re:discovery records, it is with great excitement that we announce the release of Deep Space Network's 'Big Rooms'. Deep Space Network was a joint project by David Moufang (Move D) & Jonas Grossman and it explored electronic music that wonderfully combined ambient, chill out themes, sci-f techno and IDM. Originally released on David Moufang's Source Records and distributed by Instinct Records in America a year after. Now, 27 years later, finally released on vinyl for the very first time with original artwork on "Moon colored" vinyl and gatefold cover

Rian Treanor - File Under UK Metaplasm (Planet Mu)
    https://riantreanor.bandcamp.com/album/file-under-uk-metaplasm
    https://boomkat.com/products/file-under-uk-metaplasm

    Boomkat Product Review:
We hardly need any convincing on the quality of Rian Treanor's productions as he's been completely unfuckwithable from day one, but "File Under UK Metaplasm" is still next damn level.

Rian bashed out the initial demos on returning from a trip to Uganda in 2018 for Nyege Nyege Festival. Inspired by the producers he'd collaborated with in Kampala, he switched up his workflow and began jamming out ideas at higher tempos, harnessing the energy of singeli music without simply carbon copying the style. Initial sketches were eventually fleshed into proper tracks and tested on audiences (and on soundsystems) around the world where Rian could assess the power of each element.

It was worth the hard work, the result is a fiery set of tunes that sound like everything at once and nothing at all. Opener 'Hypnic Jerks' is ragged kick-bubbling 200-bpm club on secondment to Tanzania; 'Vacuum Angle' is wobbly DMT-step that sounds like an attempt to use aging educational computer software to power the Stargate; 'Mirror Instant' is shuffling bassline house kicked up to 45rpm; 'Opponent Process' is EP7-era Autechre with the fun switch turned on; 'Debouncing' is double-speed grime that glides into parts unknown. By the time the album reaches a close on 'Orders From The Pausing', a melancholic gabber tune with an almost inverted, whisper-soft kick (?), Rian suddenly introduces reverb to the mix, just because he can.

Peerless, unfathomably inventive electronic music from the North of England, via East Africa - fucking essential.

    https://fantasyenhancing.bandcamp.com/album/1-2
Slow shifting spacey ambient that unfolds with moments of low-key psychedelic background dub. Gradual patterns and pitter-patters of minimal downtempo of unclassifiable sounds emerge and gradually evolve as they slowly drift in/out of the ambient dubby soundscapes that also filter with earthly sounds with touches of acoustic instruments bringing an organic touch to the electronic composition - which itself has an organic floating feel in a spacey electronic way! Feels as if it was composed during a live jamming session during the early hours of the morning, while staring out to the stars after taking some LSD! A listening experience where the music will certainly filter into your subconscious mind while unknowingly oozing you into an engaging slow unfolding listen into hypnotic, hazey, spaced-out, trippy yet also a very unique deep engaging music that will immerse and intrigue you from beginning to end.

^^Terrence Dixon - From The Far Future Part 3
    Awesome :)

    Actress - Karma & Desire
    https://boomkat.com/products/karma-desire
Actress returns with singers in tow for an ambitious but very real 7th album of greyscale and chromatic electronics - his first since the Ai project with Young Paint and 2017’s ‘AZD’.

On his definitive new opus Actress ushers in vocalists for the first time, allowing Sampha, Zsela, Aura T-09, and Rebekah Cristel to voice his music alongside additional keys from Italian pianist/composer Vanessa Benelli Mosell. The result is layered and spaced out to accommodate other souls in a hazy matrix of tenderised melodies and amorphous rhythms. If you’ve followed Actress' work thus far - since his cult beginnings in the mid ‘00s, or since the acclaim for his subtly game-changing run of LPs from ’Hazyville’ to ‘Ghettoville’ circa 2008-2014 - the crystalline intricacies of ‘Karma & Desire’ feel like a natural progression of his music into a form of dematerialised dancefloor/bedroom metaphysics that many others have tried to imitate, yet never quite executed with this sort of deeply enigmatic, dreamlike appeal.

Recent years have seen Actress incorporate classical and Ai inspirations thru his work on ‘Lageos’ with the LCO, and his Ai Jade Soulform on ‘AZD’ and the ‘Young Paint’ album. Now ‘Karma & Desire’ feels like the consolidation of all his work in this direction, achieving a unique sense of timeless, soul-burning immanence and detached, OOBE-like qualities that can safely be called Actress music. Sampha proves an ideal foil for his ideas on three of the albums’s quietest highlights; inhabiting ‘Many Seas, Many Rivers’ with the tenderest warbles, and almost channelling a tremulous Linda Sharrock in ‘VVY’, while found at his most vulnerable in the drizzly swing of ‘Walking Flames’, featuring Kara-Lis Coverdale on fliute. And likewise he finds the perfect sort of club music muses from Zsela in the deep blue house of ‘Angels Pharmacy’, Aura T-09 on the slackened garage of ’Loveless’, and Rebekah Christel on the LP’s jitty highlight ‘Loose’.

The instrumental arrangements here still ooze amorphous expression in every hiss, lop-sided drum and smudged chord, from the the scuzzy electro-soul swerve of ‘Diamond X’ to the air-stepping keys and bass wamp of ‘Leaves Against The Sky’, to what sounds like Coil’s studio ELpH’s emerging in the great matter probe ‘Reverend’, and a jaw-dropping masterstroke in the panoramic strings and funereal thuds of ‘Save’.

More than 15 years after we first heard his music, Actress still works our hearts, feet and minds like no other, we can’t wait to spend time entangled in this one.

Thomas P. Heckmann - The Lost Tales Vol. VI
    https://thomaspheckmann.bandcamp.com/album/the-lost-tales-vol-vi
The sixth volume in Thomas Heckmann’s long-running series finds him raiding more lost arks of genre girth, revealing how well he mints extraordinary variations on many well-established electronic architectures. This particular volume is a moog-tastic parade across patch-chord theories first proposed by Mssrs. Schulze and Froese (with the academe playfulness of Subotnick lurking in the background), as Heckmann revels in glorious bits of symphonic extraterrestrialism wrought by the swirling sturm und drang of “The Heritage of Evolution" as well as the yesteryear tangerine dreams that make such electronic explorations so beautifully poignant and ravishing (the sprightly and engaging moonpop of "The Fishbowl Adventures”). And lest one think that Heckmann isn’t capable of showing us his dark side, the vantablack tone of his sequencers and pulsating mellotrons helps to invest “Veil of Secrecy” with coiling, poised menace. This is an artist who reminds us why we fell in love with synthesized sound in the first place: kaleidoscopic auras and arias that feel like the very heavens bursting open, atmospheric tundra that are at once organic and alien, conjuring the stuff of dreams, half-glimpsed and hallucinatory. That Heckmann is now a master of the wilder synth arts can hardly be contested—what is for certain is his remarkable breadth of ideas, punctuated by an obvious love for and remarkable facility with the hoary old synthesizers from which he spins his illustrious sonic yarns.

    Cravagoide - Arborea (remaster)
    https://cravagoide.bandcamp.com/album/arborea-remaster
Making their debut on Carpe Sonum is the Italian duo known as Cravagoide, who insist on making some genuinely earthy IDM-inflected elixirs that spill down the gullet like dandelion wine. Featuring the rhythmic crunch so beloved of early genre mainstays like Boards of Canada, Bitcrush, Tim Koch, and many others, Cravagoide bathe in vast oceans of synth warble and mid-tempo percussive tableau that shift with great ease and much joie de vivre. It is a warm, engaging sound to lay back and watch breezes sketch elaborate traceries in the cumulus above, opening doors to the imagination through which you are beckoned into. A buoyancy abounds hereabouts that makes the entire enterprise infectious as hell. “Low Ridge Haven” recalls some of the gentle playfulness of Nobukazu Takemura as it intersects with some of the old Childisc crew, while “Pentatonic” moves on a happytime motorik pulse so squeaky it could urge Mouse on Mars to dance a jig or two. Right now, it feels good to have the likes of Cravagoide nipping at out heels—their bubbly touch of effervescence is the ideal tonic for these prickly times.
